Guides and resources

  • It's easy - and surprisingly inexpensive - to offset the carbon emissions from your flights. Some airlines offer carbon offsets directly. If not, we recommend ClimateCare, which has sites for the USA, the UK, and Australia.

The World Wildlife Fund and the 2008 Olympics recommend Climate Friendly (Australia), My Climate (USA), atmosfair (Europe) and NativeEnergy (USA).

In 2008 we purchased carbon emissions offsets for the annual energy consumed in the apartment from Action Carbone (France).

Please let us know if you buy carbon offsets for your flights!

Some notable events of 2010

This will be another great year to visit Paris. Numerous restorations have been completed recently, including the monumental Grand Palais exhibition hall, which re-opened after 12 years of restoration works in late 2005. It was followed in May 2006 by the Musée de l'Orangerie in the Tuileries gardens, home to Monet's waterlilies series, re-opened after six years of restorations. In June 2006 the new Musée du Quai Branly, dedicated to cultural works from indigenous civilizations from around the world, opened it's doors, and in September 2006 the Salle Pleyel concert hall re-opened.
  • January 27 - April 14, 2009: The Bibliothèque Forney presents an exhibition of color photographs dating from 1876-1914.
  • March 13-18, 2009: the annual Salon du Livre attracts writers and readers from all over the world.
  • May 24 - June 7, 2009: the French Open tennis tournament is held at the Roland Garros stadium
  • July 14, 2009: Bastille day celebrations with a big parade on the Champs-Elysées on the 14th, and fireworks and concert for a half-million or so good friends at the Eiffel Tower that evening. (In the rest of France, fireworks are usually on the 13th).
  • July 26, 2008: the Tour de France finishes with the last stage of the race on the Champs Elysées.
  • July & August 2009: Paris Plage - the banks of the Seine are converted into a temporary beach, for the benefit of Parisians who can't get to the coast this summer.
  • 19-22, November 2009: Salon Paris Photo, Carrousel du Louvre.
  • Late December 2009 until late February 2010: Open-air ice skating rink in front of the Hôtel de Ville, and another at Monparnasse. In recent years there has been a third rink on the Eiffel Tower itself. Skate rental is ¬5, and access to the rinks is free.

 Guest Comments

"...thanks Walking along the Seinefor everything. We are leaving tomorrow morning and have had a wonderful time here. Your place was superb and brilliantly located. It would be impossible for me to speak too highly of it."
- J. Doherty, Perth, Australia

"Merci beaucoup, Djaimi, for making available such a wonderful, comfy, warm, convenient homebase for our Parisian sojourn! Laurie especially treasured getting off the Metro at La Tour-Mauborg and seening the Eiffel Tower twinkling on the hour over our walk home down rue de Grenelle.
Paris exceeded our expectations for beauty, hospitality, food and art--we even had a few beautifully sunny days! My only complaint is that I wish the exchange rate were better! ...hopefully, we will be requesting the rental of your apartment again."

- K. Palmquist, Pasadena, CaliforniaRue Cler

"I don't believe I adequately expressed to you how very much we loved our stay in your Paris home... because I can't say enough wonderful things about that stay!
First of all...no one else I've encountered
on the internet has made the effort to welcome anyone to their home and their city as you did. Your little tips, photos of the area, and maps were incredible and very accurate! Those suggestions allowed us to explore Paris from a differant viewpoint...and we absolutely LOVED every special minute of it!!!.
You told me the 7th was very "Parisian" and you were so correct! We were surrounded, not by tourists, but by people who lived in the area. We chose to explore Paris without the usual guidebooks and it was magical! Instead each day was filled with adventure. We took your suggestion for dinner one evening and met a lovely French family who invited us to their home for cocktails later in the week. It was quite a treat to see how a Parisian family really lives.
Lamp-posts of Paris
We literally "discovered" the Eiffel Tower one evening while crossing a street on our way home after a long day walking along the Seine. There it was. Beckoning us to come closer. It took my breath away.
The same was true when we happened upon Notre Dame. It was 6 PM mass. We will never forget that experience either.
From our morning "cafe and croissant" to the end of a day we were charmed again and again. (You do need to be up early to get those croissants!) And choclate mousse in Paris? It's unbelievable! Having rue Cler right down the street couldn't be more perfect. Your location is right in the middle of a very special part of Paris. "

"A moveable feast. Returned from Paris on Saturday night. We were sad to say goodbye to your wonderful apartment. Can't say enough good things about the location, etc. The Maison du Jambon on the rue Cler is my Mecca. Paris is THE city - regardless of weather (did I mention that it snowed?). Thank you!!!!Image1-crop-nu-s300.done.jpg (17311 bytes)
Also had some memorable morning jogs to Les Invalides, down boulevard la Tour Maubourg, across Pont Alexandre to the right bank, down along the Seine, back across the river under the tower on the Champ de Mars back to Rue de Grenelle. Got a few who's-this-crazy- American-running- in-shorts-in-the-snow-at-6 am looks from the locals. But what a beautiful sight to see la Tour Eiffel lit up in red with flashing white lights before sunrise!!!! C'est magnifique!!! "

Sans parler des magasins sur la rue Cler - mmmmmm, les fromages, les croissants, le miel, le chocolat, le pain&& J'aimerais bien être là encore maintenant!! :)

- C. House, Bainbridge Island, Washington

"We really enjoyed staying in the studio. The bed was so comfortable that we often slept late. And the location was perfect. We think of the 7th as "our neighborhood". We felt very Parisian walking through the passage Jean Nicot and on to the bakery for our morning croissants, baguettes, and noisette/raisins...
Many thanks for the excellent instructions, and especially to Djaimi for the extraordinary help getting a reservation for us at L'Ami Jean. Merci mille fois."
- D. Lusk, East Hanover, New Jersey

"We are back home now and I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay in your apartment. Your studio is the perfect little pied-a-terre.  We have always loved the 7th arr. location, and the apartment was so well equipped and thought out it was a pleasure to stay there.  I enjoy staying in that type of accommodation so much more than staying in a hotel.

The first few years we went to Paris we always stayed at the Grand Hotel Leveque.  Then I found out about apartments being available for short term rentals and we have been doing that every since.  We have stayed in many different apartments in all different areas of Paris over the years, however, we found yours to be the perfect combination of location, size, accommodation, quality of condition and how it was equipped. Thank so much.

Again let me say how much we enjoyed your lovely little place and all of your excellent information. I wish you and your family the very best and look forward to contacting you again regarding a future trip to Paris which I am sure will happen.

With much appreciation and best wishes,"
- A. Marshall, Vancouver, British Columbia

"We are writing to thank you for renting the studio to us.  We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and really appreciated your package of information and everything in the studio.  We especially liked the good quality bedding and the comfort of the bed, the thoughtfulness of every item in the studio foryour guest's comfort."
- B. & W. Nelson, Victoria, British Columbia

"Thank you so much for renting us your apartment in Paris - we found it to be a great location and a very well equipped place to stay. You have provided everything a person needs to feel at home in a new location - we used the books and maps and other things to find our way around. We walked everywhere and stumbled across so many sights we would never have found in a guide book. Again, thank you so much for a first Paris experience in first-class style."

"...Just one more 'your apartment was lovely' note. We truly felt at home in Paris in your apartment. I do hope someday we will be able to return. Really, there are not enough nice things to say about it."
- C Gorrell & B Nelson, Bellingham, Washington

"We have returned home from a fun-filled, and fattening, Paris vacation. We were very pleased with your Paris apartment, and its location.

If you need to furnish any additional references to future rental prospects, please feel free to include our names. I hope some day to have the opportunity to return to Paris and will certainly check to see if your property is available when I do so."

- R. Gerdes, Mercer Island, Washington
